London extras

Jeanette has fed us amazingly. The specials include ox tail (yes, it is what it sounds like), sticky toffee pudding, molten lava chocolate cakes, crepes, BBQ pork sandwiches, minestrone soup, pineapple glazed chicken on rice, and Creme brûlée. All homemade and all delicious. She has also treated us to the local bakery bread. I want to stop making homemade bread altogether and just relocate one of these bakeries to my neighborhood. And tonight she is making us a "proper English roast with Yorkshire Pudding." One word: spoiled.

A big shout out to my mom and my mother in-law. Both have been so generous with their time watching our girls. They have literally made this trip possible.

Another note about the bike ride yesterday. If we weren't 20+ years younger than Richard and Jeanette and regular cyclists, there would have been no possible way we could have kept up with them on that bike ride. They are both in incredible shape. I kept having to remind myself that they are old enough to be my parents. Serious kudos and very impressive.

The cars here are tiny. They were even tinier in Paris. Our corolla would be one of the biggest cars in Paris. It would be about in the middle for car size in London. The roads are very narrow, but people still park their cars on the road, leaving barely enough room for a single car to pass through. This leads to potential games of chicken with cars coming from either direction trying to get through the tiny alley left between the parked cars. Unfortunately, the drivers tend to all be courteous here, so we haven't had any road rage excitement.

The roads we cycled on were mostly the width of a single car. They are not one-way roads. I don't know what cars do if they come from both directions. It must happen sometimes, but I can only imagine that somebody's gonna end up in the ditch.
